About Course

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a fundamental component of occupational health and safety management, designed to reduce workers’ exposure to workplace hazards that cannot be adequately eliminated or controlled through other preventive measures. Across industries such as oil and gas, petrochemical, construction, manufacturing, marine, engineering, maintenance, logistics, and industrial operations, employees may encounter physical, chemical, mechanical, electrical, thermal, and environmental hazards. The correct selection, use, inspection, and maintenance of PPE are essential to minimizing occupational injuries and illnesses. This training program introduces participants to the principles of workplace PPE safety, hazard identification, risk assessment, and the hierarchy of controls, with reference to applicable OSHA requirements, including 29 CFR 1910 Subpart I and 29 CFR 1926 Subpart E.

The course provides practical awareness of commonly used personal protective equipment, including industrial safety helmets, protective eyewear, face shields, hearing protection, safety footwear, protective gloves, protective clothing, high-visibility garments, and respiratory protective equipment. Participants will learn how different types of PPE protect against specific hazards, how to recognize equipment limitations, and why proper fitting, compatibility, inspection, cleaning, maintenance, and storage are important. The training also addresses common PPE-related unsafe practices, defective equipment, inadequate protection, and the responsibilities of employers, supervisors, and employees in maintaining a safe working environment. Additional attention is given to the importance of following manufacturer instructions, site-specific safety procedures, and established occupational health and safety practices.

Developed by LLOYDS ACADEMY USA, this online self-paced training program is intended for workers, technicians, engineers, supervisors, HSE personnel, and individuals seeking foundational knowledge of PPE safety. The course combines structured learning modules, workplace examples, safety checklists, and a final knowledge assessment to reinforce understanding of essential PPE requirements. Upon completing the training and achieving the required passing score, participants will be eligible to receive a LLOYDS ACADEMY USA PPE Safety Awareness Course Completion Certificate. This certificate confirms successful completion of an introductory awareness course and does not constitute practical competency certification, regulatory approval, or a substitute for employer-provided task-specific training, fit testing, or other applicable safety requirements.
